Hi! My name is Marvin Louis Mason. My friends, neighbors and guests call me Marvelous Marv. I’m a long-time local resident of Williams with a well rounded background in the hospitality industry. I invite you and your family to to join me and my wife, your tour guide-ess, Magnificent Maggie, on a full day tour of YOUR Grand Canyon.
My parents and I moved to Williams from Southern California in 1962. We lived in and operated a motel right on Route 66, the Mother Road. That was the hey-day of the first inter-continental highway. All traffic going to California traveled right by my bedroom window. Fun times for a high school kid!
I was drafted after graduation and served in the U.S. Army in Fort Huachuca, Fort Bliss and Thailand. I was a transportation specialist. With an honorable discharge, I trained with Greyhound Bus Lines as a commercial driver. Some of my favorite memories are driving ski junkets to all the major western ski resorts and I also drove for the Harlem Globetrotters!
In the 1980’s, the Biegert family arrived in Williams from Kansas. They had an idea to restore the abandoned Santa Fe railway to the Grand Canyon. I was their first conductor and we sure had great times. After several years, I thought to myself ” I can do a better job as an independent tour guide” and I have been doing so since 1994.
I raise racing pigeons and I know a lot about the birds of the Grand Canyon. I enjoy the challenge of gardening at high elevation and I’m getting quite good at it.
I have received accolades from Fodor’s and Trip Advisor. Join me and Magnificent Maggie on tour and you will know why.
